Ceramic Stoneware Bowl with Hand-carved Deer Skull

Ceramic Stoneware Bowl with Hand-carved Deer Skull

This is a white stoneware bowl high-fired to cone 10 in a wood-fired soda kiln in Kentucky. It is slab-built and altered then carved with a deer skull and spiral patterns in the inside and outside of the bowl. The incised lines have been filled with a local slip clay that fires to a dark metallic brown in the kiln. The ash and flashing from the kiln does the rest. It is not meant for microwaving or dishwashing.
