Soda fired Carved Diamond Pattern Bowl

Soda fired Carved Diamond Pattern Bowl

This angular white stoneware clay bowl was fired in a wood-fueled soda kiln in Kentucky. I carved repeating diamonds into the walls of the bowl both inside and out. The spaces are decorated in a local hand-dug slip clay from one of my pastures that fires to a metallic brown glaze in high temps and accented with a red slip. The ash and flashing from the kiln does the rest of the work. The walls of the bowl are angular and thin. Very much a display piece but it is functional. High-fired to cone 10. Because of it’s more refined shape, I recommend hand-washing only and do not recommend microwaving.
