Wood-fired Bowl with Starfish Pattern

Wood-fired Bowl with Starfish Pattern

This is a carved white stoneware bowl high-fired to cone 10 in a wood-fired soda kiln in Kentucky. It is heavily carved with a starfish pattern inside the bowl and an abstracted pattern outside of the bowl then colored with black, turquoise, gold and red underglazes. The ash and flashing from the kiln does the rest. This bowl is thrown with thin walls. It is not suitable for microwaving or dishwashing. Works well for holding dry items like candy, nuts and whole fruit. Cosmetic S-crack.
